I love the Deccan Chargers and I am a Fanatic Fan of the Chargers, I am sad when they loose and over the moon when they win! I can think of a million things to love them and here is a new one! š
During the Deccan vs Delhi match at Cuttack there was one thing that caught my attention. Not even a single player in the Deccan Chargers XI are a part of any national team’s playing XI (assuming all players to be fit) in any format of the game! With a mixture of retired (Gilchrist), banned (Symonds) and out of favour international stars (Gibbs and Vaas). Indian International players who are in woeful form (RP Singh), Unlucky (Ojha) or those who get too many opportunities ( Rohit – Why is he in the World T20 squad? Is there a Mumbai quota or something?) and a bunch of Domestic players whose chance of getting a National Cap in any format is worse than Ganguly getting the Orange Cap this year. They are the team to beat and are surely a strong contender for the semi finals and the title as well. As far as I can remember this is a first for a playing XI in the IPL ( Open Challenge: Prove me Wrong! š ). No wonder its amongst the least hyped up teams in the tournament.
For the record playing XI for Deccan was :
Monish Mishra, Gilchrist, Gibbs, Symonds, Rohit Sharma, Suman, Venugopal Rao, Vaas, Rahul Sharma, Ojha and RP Singh
With Laxman fit, this might not happen again unless he is dropped !
So as the Chargers song says : Go Chargers Go! ( Hoping they change the title song to something better soon! )
dude.. dont say rohit gets undue chances.. he is really good and he does not get too many chances
As far as the IPL and Deccan Chargers go Rohit is an asset and one of the Top performers.
He is a wonderful talent but has not been consistent and under performs. He has 4 fifties in 39 ODI innings at an average of 26!
I would love to see him in the Indian team and perform well !
He gets too many chances to my liking in the Indian Cricket Team, like in the World T20 squad he was selected ahead of Manish Pandey, Robin Utthapa , Virat Kohli and Co.
Hey, Gibbs is NOT retired! But yeah, I never noticed that. HAHA. Awesome!
And Veena, Rohit is good? Oh no…
I said he was out of favor (of the selectors) Purna! š
Mark my words, Rohit Sharma is the ‘Sachin-in-making’. He’s got that beautiful lazy elegance like Mark Waugh, Inzi. Forgot those ODI matches he helped India win against Oz in Oz ? What about 2007 T20 world cup final ? or that match against South Africa in the same series ? Dude, averages are temp. Class is permanent. Sehwag doesn’t have a great average either.
For your convenience,
CB series final
another match against aus
T20 against SA
Final against Pak
Welcome to the Blog Rakesh!
I agree the Rohit Sharma is talented and has played match winning innings at the highest level, but all the matches you have quoted and provided links to for my convenience are over 2 years old, that in itself tell us a story that he has shown promise and faltered in recent times, he has lost his place in the ODI team and his performances in the International arena have taken a nose dive!
I would love to see him perform at the international level, I know class his permanent, remember even Sehwag was dropped from the team, and he came back with a BANG ! Hoping Rohit does the same if he gets some opportunities in the Indian Team in the near future!
